The exhibition

A trip to the towers. Resounding memories of the 20th century

The history of the Château de la Hunaudaye is not only that of the Tournemine Lords who lived in the Middle Ages. More recently, in the 20th century, the castle was a playground to hundreds of children. In those days, children used to cycle to “the towers” and could enter at will: they came to play, to see friends, to meet new people... and to engage in youthful shenanigans!!

In 2009, the association’s volunteers recorded these tales of the past. Preserved and enhanced, these audio recordings tell the story of a stronghold abandoned to nature, open to the elements, with its mysterious and enchanting façade.

This year, our temporary exhibition is venturing off the beaten track, with an acoustic trail which will lead you all around the castle. You will hear of a vibrant place alive with the sounds of children’s cries, echoing with conversations, memories of war, Sunday lunches and costume parties.
The trail will take you to the top of the seigneurial tower, where children can play with sounds in a special area.

A guide in English will be given to you at the reception to visit the exhibition.
