Baroque Music Concert

by the collective Ma non Troppo

In 1220, Francis of Assisi left the leadership of his order, to get closer to a nature that he loved as a divine creation… He then inspired a new popular song, in the Umbrian language, which flourished during this century around Assisi and Cortona. These Laudas are splendid songs of popular praise, in the vernacular, by turns poignant and jubilant. These medieval collections will also inspire 20th century composers, such as Gavin Bryars who offers a very sensual reading. The lauds presented are taken from the laudaire of Cortona from the editions of Ottavio Petrucci (Venice, 16th century), Franz Liszt and Gavin Bryars.
